Writing An Article – What To Do Before You Even Begin To Write It
Below, we look at some things to do before you Start Writing your article.
Look At The News – Articles based on the latest news events from your industry or niche is sometimes the ones that get very popular very quickly. Read through industry renowned blogs or websites to try and see what is happening in your area of expertise and also sign up to all of the newsletters you can find if they are related. As soon as a topic hits your inbox that you feel could be really big news, write an article and get it out there, as first come often leads to the most rewarded!
Choose Your Topic – This is the most important thing you can do, but sadly, it is often the hardest thing to do! Even the most expert author or contributor will at some stage run out of things to write about or have a moment of dread when you can not think of the next thing to write about. Sometimes, it can be a good idea to walk away for a few hours and do other things, or you can have a look around on the Internet and see what others are writing about, and then maybe do your on variation on this. Make sure your topic is keyword rich because if you are planning to submit them to the article directories and your own site, this is really important.
Do Some Research – Once you have decided what you are going to write about, it is time to have a look around and do some research about the topic or subject your article will be about. In the age of the Internet, you do not even have to leave your house to do this; you can spend an hour on the Internet and find everything you will need to know, especially with sites like Wikipedia and other various information portals or knowledge banks. If you write an article for the sake of writing it and you do not really know what you are talking about, this will be very evident and people will simply click away and probably not read many more of your future or previous articles.
Write Some Notes – Rather than plough straight in and start writing your article, it can sometimes be a good idea to sit down and jot down some notes about your topic. Maybe you can write some key facts down or do some bullet points that will help formulate your piece of content. Having some notes in front of you can often help with the flow of the article, because trying to write it all straight from the top of your head can sometimes be very difficult, so try giving yourself some key pointers before you start the full article.
View Previously Written Content – Even if someone has written something similar online before, there is no harm taking a variation of this subject and making it better or focusing on something slightly different. Having a quick look at what other people have written can sometimes give you some inspiration when it comes to writing something new or planning a new article, so do have a look at what other people have written, as you might just find some top topics to focus on.
Look For Gaps In Your Niche – If you specialise in a niche or area of expertise, try to have a look around for questions that you think might not have been answered. Sit down and work out a list of questions you would have if you were one of your customers or clients. Once you have a list of these questions you can then answer them in well written and well thought out articles, and at the same time you will probably find that you have found a gap in the niche you are writing about, because if you can not find the answer to the question elsewhere, you are one step ahead.

Writing Killer Article Subject Lines
You know, it's really funny. It almost doesn't matter how good your article is. If you have a subject line that just lays there like a rock at the bottom of a lake, nobody is going to read your wonderful article. Sad but true. So, it is the hope of this article, and the author who wrote it, that by the time you are done reading this, you will have a pretty good understanding of how to come up with that killer subject line that will just make people want to read your article.
Did you ever watch the teasers before the evening news, especially Fox after an episode of 24 on Monday night? They almost always have one that goes something like this...
"Could this be the end of Jack Bauer?"
What do you think that does? It makes people want to watch the news. I mean, heaven forbid that the show did away with its beloved star. So teaser subjects like that make people watch an hour of news that they most likely wouldn't have watched. And trust me, it's a full hour because you know that story is coming pretty close to the end of the broadcast. That's called smart advertising.
Well, that's what your article subject line has to do. It has to be smart. It has to make people want to open up your article and read what's inside. Otherwise, all the great writing in the world is just going to go to waste.
So, how do you come up with a killer subject line, and more importantly, what subject lines do you want to avoid at all costs? Well, I'm going to give you a couple of examples using different topics so you can see that this trick will work for just about any subject.
Let's take the subject of "acne" and see what we can do with a bland boring subject line.
Let's say you want to write an article on the causes of acne. Well, you can play it safe and come up with a subject something like "The Causes Of Acne." Now, maybe somebody will actually read that article if they really want to know what causes acne. But what if you came out with a subject like this?
"Why You've Got That Zit In The Middle Of Your Forehead."
It's amusing, it's funny and it will catch people's attention. I would be willing to bet that you'll get more people reading that subject and that article, even if it isn't as well written, than the one before it. Why? Because it's human nature to look for the interesting and the different.
Let's take the subject of, well, of writing articles. Let's take this very one.
I could have made a subject that read, "How To Write Subject Lines For Articles." I mean it does say what the article is going to talk about, but by using the subject line "Writing Killer Article Subject Lines", it made it just a little more interesting and made you more likely to read it.
Writing a killer subject line for your article is not hard. All it takes is a little imagination and a few minutes of thought.
Try it sometime. You'll be surprised what you can come up with.
