One of the best ways to grow your business is to develop yourself personally by surrounding yourself with positive people that you not only can learn something from but who can also give you the tools to further propel yourself in life.

You have to get around the right people. You have to consistently up level your friends/associates. I'm passionate about networking; it's changed my business & my life.

If you have a small business or are starting a new business networking is one of the most economical ways to generate new prospects. And considering 70% of new business that your company will get will be from word of mouth you might want to get to stepping.

Networking allows you to put your business in the spotlight and it will raise your profile especially if you network on a regular basis.

It's awesome for developing your people & presentation skills. Every time you network you get to present your business & meet with a variety of people from various professions that will inevitably lead to potential clients, joint venture partners or referrals. You've heard the saying people do business with those they know, like & trust. This ensures your success!

And, if there's no one in your network who can help, the chances are that someone knows someone who can and will recommend them. In 6 months to 18 months time you will find that your business is moving forward at a much faster pace. How beautiful would that be?

1. Have a strategy: One of the biggest mistakes I see is that most people network without a strategy. Always be prepared & know what you're offering. When you speak to someone you will immediately know if it's a viable contact.
2. The 3-5 rule: Have you ever walked into a room & wanted to meet everyone? At the end of the event perhaps you felt like you didn't meet anyone at all. I think it's important to focus on quality rather than quantity. You can expand your business by forming relationships with 3 core individuals versus exchanging business cards with 30.
3. Pretty pen please: Don't leave your house without a notebook and pen. I can't tell you how many times someone's given me an idea or shared pertinent information, or a referral. It's always a good idea to make a note of the date and time, who you met, where and why, and what you discussed.
4. The beauty exchange: If you have made a wonderful connection please ask for their card & offer yours. Never, ever leave home without business cards or brochures. Networking is a wonderful opportunity to expand your brand.
5. The fortune is in the follow up: The fortune is in the follow up & you should always follow up. I love exchanging cards but what I noticed is most people don't follow up. Don't assume if you give them your card they will follow up. Take the lead & it will pay off tremendously.
6. Be of Service: Don't leave home without good listening skills. Always offer to help it's amazing how much satisfaction we all get from helping others. When you live to give it will undoubtedly come back to you. Just talking to people about their experiences, their goals and their problems will stimulate lots of new ideas and open your mind to new opportunities. All of a sudden you have a completely new approach to doing something or even a new business venture that you may never have otherwise thought of.
7. Coach/mentor: The Top achievers know that to really get ahead and create peak performance, they must have a coach. High achievers in any field have coaches and they always achieve more than those who don't. Observe anyone at the top of their game and their "top secret" will be the same – they have all had someone to guide, counsel and give them direction – and most likely it was a coach. Halle Berry attributed her Oscar winning performance to her acting coach. Tiger Woods speaks of the coach that pushes his golf game & there's someone that coached a Senator who is now The President Of The United States Of America.
8. Expand your business online: I will be the first to say you can't just throw up a website & think you have a business. Build a website & get listed on the major search engines. Cross promotions, blogging & social media will increase your SEO (search engine optimization). Have a strategy to build your business in cyberspace.
9. Don't leave home without confidence: Connect with confidence, be professional & present a polished image that's cohesive with your brand. You, your website & business card should be in synergy. Done is better than perfect. Show up strong & leave all of the ugly stuff behind. The more you do it the easier it will get. Your confidence will soar!
10. Being bold is beautiful: How many times have we heard don't talk to strangers. Well in a networking situation you should make it a point to strike up conversations, approach people you don't know & join in if you see people that are talking in groups of 3 or more. Don't wait for opportunities seize the moment. That's how you will expand your network so you can increase your net-worth!
